PLOT:

China im Jahre 1964. Der franzoesische Diplomat
Ren  Gallimard lernt auf einem Botschaftsempfang
die Opernsaengerin Song Liling kennen. Er
verfaellt ihr bedingungslos und ist bald
besessen von der schoenen Frau, die er
"Butterfly" nennt. Blind vor Liebe erkennt er
nicht, dass Song Liling in Wirklichkeit ein Mann
ist und vom Staat gezwungen wird, ihn
auszuspionieren. Es gelingt ihr sogar, Gallimard
einzureden, sie bekaeme ein Kind von ihm. Die
bizarre Beziehung gipfelt in einem schrecklichen
Ende
