PLOT
Project: ALF starts where the long-running sitcom left
off. ALF's adoptive family, The Tanners, couldn't
contain their space secret any longer, and the
wisecracking alien finds himself locked down at an Area
51-style military base deep in the desert.
His fate rests on the shoulders of the sinister
Colonel Milfoil (Martin Sheen) who wants to see ALF...
well... extinct. But ALF has a couple of young officers
on his side, not to mention his own persuasive
personality, as he boldly escapes the base. First stop
is the Kitty Kat Lounge, where much to ALF's surprise,
there's no oven roasted Calico on the menu.
Project: ALF is a great escape in every sense of the
word as Sheen, Miguel Ferrer, Ray Walston and Ed Begley,
Jr. take turns matching wits with our favorite visitor
from Melmac in this funny, furry, family-friendly
feature.
RIP NOTES
For six years since ALF the regular series had ended,
fans had been waiting in suspense to learn what actually
happened to their favority furry wise-cracking alien.
Surely there had to be a happier ending than what the
episode that unexpectedly turned out to be the series
finale would suggest? Thankfully there was, and this is
the story that is told in Project: ALF. Fan opinion was
divided since day one; the movie really has nothing in
common with the show, apart from ALF being the star.
While one can easily argue that this is the most
important thing, his new co-stars are no match for the
dynamic duo that was ALF and Willie. That said, Paul
Fusco finally did get his wish granted of bringing ALF
out of the living room (or the kitchen), and into the
real world. We'll let you judge for yourself.
Although this was a made for TV film with a budget to
match, you might be surprised to see some familiar
faces, including Martin Sheen from before his West Wing
days, as well as the late Ray Walston of Picket Fences
and My Favorite Martian fame, and even a small cameo by
Ahmet Zappa. No country has a greater ALF fandom than
Germany, and Germany is also the only country where this
actually got a cinematic release as "ALF - Der Film",
where a quarter of a million people went to see it. Not
bad for a Movie of the Week!
We sourced this from the out-of-print Video Service
Corp release, the only known version. FRAGMENT did too
when they originally released this back when it first
came out, but their release was improperly cropped.
We've included a comparison sample so you can see for
yourself. I think you'll also agree that our rip looks
better, the the poor crop is why we chose to PROPER
this. As an added bonus, we've also included the rare
commentary track as an extra, with Paul Fusco explaining
heaps of trivia and information tidbits throughout. The
only other place this can be found is in
ALF.S01E16-E17.iNTERNAL.DVDRip.XviD-FLAiR, another
release from Video Service Corp.
Enjoy!
WHO WE ARE
Since 2003, FLAiR has been dedicated to preserving
the neglected titles of an entertainment era long gone.
A time of classic kids flicks, painstaking hand-drawn
animation and countless cheesy low-budget horrors. A
time when pop had a King, and rock had a Queen. A time
when special FX wizards ruled, and CGI was just one of
their many tools.
Driven by nostalgia and memories of better days, we
seek to relive those times, and share those memories.
While our belief is that the 80s represent the very
pinnacle of pop culture, we will not limit ourselves
to one decade, or any single genre. We will not ignore
the movies considered insignificant or even embarrassing
by the studios. We will not disregard a timepiece just
because it is dated.
Whereas most groups rely solely on digital sources,
there are still thousands of rare and out of print
titles, many of which have no planned digital release.
We've made it our mission to dig these out, clean them
up using the best hardware and techniques available to
us, and share them with the world. Be it VHS, Laserdisc
or more exotic formats, we're here to bring you the best
(and worst!) of decades past. So sit back and enjoy as
we uncover and pay tribute to an age of cinema we will
never get back.
THANKS
To everyone that has supported us over the years and
managed to keep this fun!
