PLOT
Deep below a posh Beverly Hills hotel you'll find the
Underground Aces - a fun-loving, fast-driving, slightly
larcenous team of car-parking jockeys. Life in the
underground parking lot is far from dull. There's
football for a start - played with a giant weather
balloon and two sports cars - then there's false fire
alarms, a kidnapping on horseback and a love-sick sheikh
to contend with. There's lots of romantic entanglements,
exciting hits and misses as cars, bowling balls,
motorcycles, roller-skaters and even a trained housefly
confront each other. Underground Aces has got to be one
of the funniest, wackiest, warmest films you'll ever see.
RIP NOTES
Beyond people you might recognize, such as Melanie
Griffith, A-Team's Dirk Benedict or Law & Order's (and
Beauty and the Beast's) Jerry Orbach, Underground Aces
is a veritable who's who of early 80s actors you might
not be able to name. There's Michael Winslow, the crazy
sound guy pre-Police Academy, there's T.K. Carter
(kind-hearted teacher Mike Fulton on Punky Brewster and
Sinbad's best friend on The Sinbad Show), Robert Hegyes
from Welcome Back, Kotter and Cagney & Lacey, and
Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore himself; Ernie Hudson.
Possibly more notable for its cast than its plot, this
is a fair representation of an early 80s zany comedy, at
a time when movies with boobs could still get away with
a PG rating. Just pretend you're really watching Car
Wash (sadly sans George Carlin), and you're sure to find
this enjoyable.
You can find Underground Aces on VOD (Amazon et al),
but not on any physical digital formats. Since our
primary focus is analog, we sourced this from VHS, but
we hope other groups will soon pick up the slack and
start preing these forgotten gems from newfangled
sources.
Enjoy!
WHO WE ARE
Since 2003, FLAiR has been dedicated to preserving
the neglected titles of an entertainment era long gone.
A time of classic kids flicks, painstaking hand-drawn
animation and countless cheesy low-budget horrors. A
time when pop had a King, and rock had a Queen. A time
when special FX wizards ruled, and CGI was just one of
their many tools.
Driven by nostalgia and memories of better days, we
seek to relive those times, and share those memories.
While our belief is that the 80s represent the very
pinnacle of pop culture, we will not limit ourselves
to one decade, or any single genre. We will not ignore
the movies considered insignificant or even embarrassing
by the studios. We will not disregard a timepiece just
because it is dated.
Whereas most groups rely solely on digital sources,
there are still thousands of rare and out of print
titles, many of which have no planned digital release.
We've made it our mission to dig these out, clean them
up using the best hardware and techniques available to
us, and share them with the world. Be it VHS, Laserdisc
or more exotic formats, we're here to bring you the best
(and worst!) of decades past. So sit back and enjoy as
we uncover and pay tribute to an age of cinema we will
never get back.
THANKS
To everyone that has supported us over the years and
managed to keep this fun!
