Description:
Eleven years ago, Sarah Beeny and her husband
Graham bought Rise Hall near Hull, a grand Georgian
pile with extensive gardens and 97 rooms - each of which
was riddled with dry rot, wet rot and mould - and began
the laborious process of restoration. Now Beeny's a
chirpy, likeable sort, but it's hard to feel that much
sympathy for a professional property expert who's
struggling to renovate the enormous stately home she
acquired for the price of a suburban semi. Glossing
over that and the irritating fake jeopardy (who cares
whether the carpet arrives in time for the charity
dinner?), it's interesting to see wallpaper being printed by
hand and to discover how an MDF fireplace can look
almost as good as the original.
