Injected HDR10+ metadata from Amazon. Grade check, HDR10+ Plot
Despite the credits listing the soundtrack as Dolby, which by 1998 would typically (though not
always) indicate a discrete 5.1 mix, Pi was mixed in stereo due to time and budget constraints. This
interview with Craig Henighan (the sound designer behind the Atmos remix) confirms Pi was not mixed
in 5.1. e;[Requiem for a Dream] was 5.1, this was not; this was a mono dialogue, stereo dialogue,
and a mono effects track. e;
Preferred FRA BD s stereo track, as GBR s left channel is ~1 dB too low relative to the right
channel and GER is rolled off and quite likely from a lossy source, judging from distortion around
hum. ESP is the same as FRA. NTSC DVD has marginally better dynamics, but not significantly enough
to justify the inclusion of a lossy track.
Audio comparison: Spectrograms, Waveforms, Waveforms (adjusted volume)
USA UHD, GBR and GER discs have the same commentaries, but USA UHD disc has them in lossy AC-3
whereas GBR and GER discs have them in lossless DTS-HD. GER disc was preferred for being 24-bit.
VobSub subtitles from NLD DVD OCR d to SRT thanks Piddox!
